Maximum anchor effective length

A short question, why does profis software only allow your anchors to have a maximum effective depth of 192mm?

Hello Carel.

Thank you for contacting Hilti.

The information you have provided is very limited. If you are referrring to Anchor design, then as per ETA for example, the maximum embedment depth is 20 times the diameter of anchor rod being used. Other than this limitation, there can be other reasons the software limits the effective depth one of which may be the total depth of base material available. The value of 192mm does not stand out to me as a notable threshold.

Please provide more details regarding the case so I can look into it further. You can provide attachments in your messages if you would like to.

Hope the above helps.

Regards,
Amad Qureshi

Hi Carel, yes both reasons you mentioned are applicable for the 20xD - to prevent splitting and due to the fact that the load transfer is not reliable after this limit. Regarding the specific anchor that you mentioned, yes it does not follow the 20xD rule due to its specifc nature of application which I see you are already familiar with. The embedment limits here are different as we can see at Table C.1 in the ETA of the product. Hi Amad, thanks for your response, is the 20D factor to prevent splitting failure or is the anchor not effective after the depth limitation? I noticed there are limitations on the anchorage depth depending on the type of anchor, for instance a Hilty HY 200 SafeSet anchor, is limited to a minimum and maximum anchorage depth of 96 & 192mm(M16) where no cleaning is required. I presume its due to a lowered effective depth factor due to the combination of the injection mortar, expansion anchor and probable debris remaining in the anchor hole after drilling?
